Israel says it has brought in special forces: to try to wrest control of four sites from Hamas fighters after the militant group launched an unusual incursion into Israel. The death toll on both sides reached 1100 and thousands were injured. Fighting continued at several places till Monday morning. Egypt has held talks with Israel and Palestinian militant groups to release Palestinian women in Israeli prisons in exchange for Israeli women held by Hamas militants, Egypt's state-run Al-Ahram newspaper reported on Monday.
The daily newspaper quoted an unnamed source as saying that the purpose of the talks was to finalize an agreement on trade.
Palestinian militant groups have claimed to be holding more than 130 hostages. Taken in Israel over the past two days. Hamas spokesman Abdul Latif al-Qunawa told The Associated Press by phone that the group's fighters had captured more Israelis as recently as Monday morning.
He said the group's goal is to release all Palestinian prisoners held by Israel, who have agreed to unilateral exchanges in the past.
